The most valuable thing to your blog is your
readership. Your readers holding discussions
in the comment section of your
blog is doubly valuable. Here are some ideas on how you can attract more
comments on your posts:
1). Ask Questions:
By creating open ended content and calling for opinions,
you can increase dialogue taking place around your post.
2). Respond
to your commentators: Never allow the discussion to come
to a halt unnecessarily. Set up your blog to notify you of any comments, so you
can keep the discussion alive as long as
is appropriate. Always be thankful and courteous to your readers.
3). Be active
on other blogs: Avoid spamming comment boards, but engage in honest, constructive discussion with other bloggers. Link to other bloggers’ posts when relevant
in order to initiate conversations, and post the occasional relevant link.
4). Make it
easier for users to comment: Chances are, if the public does
not have to register to comment you’re more likely to host discussion. And
while comment moderation might help to avoid spam and malicious commentary, it
often dissuades potential participants
from sharing their opinion.
5). List your
top commentators or visitors: Widgets allow you to
extract blocks of commentary from your comment boards for display. These are
normally automated widgets, but you could consider copying and pasting parts of
text drawing attention to the commentary
and creating a feeling of
community.
6). Offer incentives
for commentary: An example of how you could encourage
commentary through incentives is by offering the top commentators a prize. Be
it a free product or service or even an honourable mention, incentives are just
the catalyst to get the conversation
started.
